Wedding Etiquette Questions: Ask the Etiquist
Is it alright to wear a long dress to an afternoon wedding?
Q. Is it alright to wear a long dress to a 3:00 PM wedding?
A. A full length gown is usually not appropriate at
any but a very formal evening or black tie wedding.
However, if the dress in question is rather casual, such as a light cotton
or linen at a summer wedding, the length might be just fine. If you're
not sure if the dress is too formal or not, the safer action would be
to opt for a shorter dress or suit.
