Wedding Etiquette Questions: Ask the Etiquist
Shoud the father of the bride give the couple a gift if he's paying
for the wedding?
Q. Does father of the bride still give a gift at the
wedding when he is paying for the wedding? If yes, what is proper gift?
A. The rules of etiquette don't dictate that the father
of the bride provide another gift, on top of the wedding itself. But,
if your heart dictates that you want to give them something, then something
that captures the memory of the wedding would be appropriate - the thought
should far outweigh the price tag.
Something very personal that would always make them think of you when
they see it would be much more appropriate that something from their wedding
registry. A small keepsake with their initials and wedding date on it
might be perfect. You can consider a decorative item for their home like
a vase or clock with engraving, or something cozy and usable like an embroidered
afhan or pillow case cover. and if you are handy, something made just
for them would be wonderful.
