Wedding Etiquette Questions: Ask the Etiquist

Do you mention the groom's parents on a wedding invitation?

Q. On a traditional invitation, are the parents of the groom mentioned even if they do not play a part in the wedding?

A. When the bride's parents are hosting, the standard invitation doesn't mention the groom's parents. But if they would like to mention the groom's parents, the wording would be as follows:

Mr. and Mrs. John Doe
request the honour of your presence
at the marriage of their daughter
Mary Jane Doe
to
Jack Smith
son of Mr. and Mrs. William Smith

If the bride and groom are paying for the wedding themselves, the wording could be:

Together with Their Parents
Mary Jane Doe
and
Jack Smith
request the honor of your presence at their wedding
